According to the United Nations refugee agency, UNHCR, there are more than 50 million refugees around the world. Half of them are women and children.  For years, many countries and regions have been holding their own Refugee Days. One of the most widespread is Africa Refugee Day, which is celebrated on June 20 in several countries. The UN General Assembly therefore decided that 20 June would be celebrated as World Refugee Day. ~ adapted from http://wfto.com/events/world-refugee-day-2015

  1. Wow I didn’t know about this event. Wish I did sooner, how did it go? I work primarily with orphans in India and not refugees but from watching the news its very apparent that there is a monumental need for help for refugees. With issues in Iraq/Syria to Ukraine, and Sudan, its imperative that Americans get educated and find ways to help.
