These classes are designed for advanced ESL students and are offered through Wake Tech’s Workforce Continuing Education Services at locations within Wake County. They focus on specific areas, such as Oral Communication, Writing Skills and Pronunciation, and vary from semester to semester. There is a small fee for these classes.

How to Register for “Beyond the Basics” Courses
Option #1
- Go to Northern Wake Campus located at 6600 Louisburg Road, Raleigh.
- Register for the class in Building D, Workforce Continuing Education.
- Pay for the class at the Cashier’s Desk in Building C.
- Please note that the cashier is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and is closed during lunch.
- You may pay at this location with cash, check, money order, debit or credit card.
Option #2
- Go to Western Wake Campus, 3434 Kildaire Farm Road, Cary.
- Register for the class at the Receptionist’s Desk on the first floor.
- Pay for the class at the Cashier’s Desk also on the first floor.
- Please note that the cashier is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and is closed during lunch.
- You may pay at this location with cash, check, money order, debit or credit card.
Option #3
- Go online to workforce.waketech.edu.
- Type the course number into the search box.
- Find the course that you want to take and click on the box to the left of the name of the course.
- Scroll down and click on “Proceed to Check Out.”
- Complete the online registration form.
- Please note that students without a Social Security Number will need to contact the Department of Records and Registration in order to have their online registration processed. The number is 919-334-1631.
- All students must indicate USA as their citizenship for online registration. This is a requirement in our computer system and is not reported to any government agency.
- For this option, you may use only debit or credit card.

We have ESL classes at Western Wake Campus (Millpond), but not on Main Campus. Future registration dates for all Wake Tech ESL classes can be found here:

As far as I know, we do not currently offer “Beyond the Basics” (Advanced ESL) classes on our Main or West Campuses. If you are interested in more information about these classes, contact Susan Ballard at seballard@waketech.edu or 919-334-1536.
What’s the difference between EFL classes and Beyond the Basic classes?
If I already finished the EFL, is it a good choice to take BB classes?
